We would like to thank the parade committee for another great year as well as all who participated including Station 602 (Listie), 604 (Stoystown), 607 (Sipesville), and 627 (Shanksville).

FRIEDENS FIRE WOULD LIKE TO GIVE A BIG THANK YOU AND SHOUTOUT TO WALMART FOR THE GENEROUS DONATION GIVEN TO THE COMPANY. THE MONIES WILL BE USED FOR PAYMENT ON THE NEW SQUAD 603 QRS UNIT THAT PROVIDES THE COMMUNITY WITH ADDED QUICK RESPONSE MEDICAL PERSONNEL ON TOP OF EMS.
As fall rolls around so does the annual North Ridge Church 5K run. Like in previous years, persnnel from 603 were asked to help with traffic control and medical assistance (if needed) for the event. This year the event yielded approx 70 runners and walkers and once again was a success with no injuries. Thank you to the North Ridge Church for the hospitality and great set up for this event.

On Tuesday Friedens Pack 152 Cub Scouts visited Station 603 for a tour of the hall, overview of firefighters gear and equipment, and fire prevention discussion. The group got to use some of the firefighter tools, try on gear, and various other types of activities while interacting with some of the members.
On Monday night, Station 603 hosted the home school kids from around the area like in previous years for fire prevention. Approx 60 kids and 20 adults filled the station for a hour presentation on various fire safety and prevention topics then about a half hour of interacting with firefighters trying on gear and using the hoseline. We would like to thank all that participated and we will see you again next year!
On Saturday, Station 603 was asked to provide traffic control for the North Ridge Baptist Church 5K race. Engine 2, Utility 3, Squad 8 took to the task with 9 members shutting down part of Rt 281, Blackburn Rd, and Kline Rd. The race turned out 60-70 runners/walkers on the soggy morning. Fun was had by all and no injuries occurred!
With many at the 9/11 memorial ceremony and Mountain Craft Days a select few made it out to the "out of the ordinary" training that was received in a grant by Station 607. The National Education Center for Agriculture Safety provided 19 winners throughout the nation with the specialized training for a day. As the beautiful weekend began, a crew of 4 took Utility 3 to the annual Somerfest parade in Somerset Borough and came home with some hardware. Utility 3 brought home "The Best Appearing Mini Pumper" as our shined up unit rolled down W Main St in style. Thank you to Laurel Arts for the invitation to the parade and congrats to another successful year.
Station 603 would like to recognize Chief Jason Griffith and Captain Tanner Shaffer on achieving their Fire Officer II Certification. Also, Lieutenant Aaron Clark on completing his Firefighter I Certification.
As the weekend approaches and threat of another snow storm is on the rise, Station 603 would like to kindly ask the public not only in our area but all over to keep all hydrants clear of snow if it is near your property. Taking 5 minutes to clear a path out to the hydrant and around it for use can be the difference of a life or property saved. On Sunday Nov. 1st, Station 603 took part in practicing with the Hurst Rescue Tools at Stoystown Auto Wreckers. Crews preformed door removal, post cuts, dash rolls, roof flops/removal on the vehicles provided as well as went over stabilization. As fire prevention month wraps up, Station 603 has done various things throughout the community to provide fire prevention programs. Station 603 was called upon by the North Ridge Church on Blackburn Rd to assist them with traffic control for their first ever 5K run through part of Friedens. They had approx 25-30 runners. Station 603 had 7 FFs and3 EMS personnel for the event. All 603 units E2, U3, T4, and S8 to block traffic, provide EMS personnel, and assist in other places. A big thanks to Somerset Ambulance for standing by while the race was being held.
