Grain Bin Rescue Training
Sun. Sep 11th 2016

With many at the 9/11 memorial ceremony and Mountain Craft Days a select few made it out to the "out of the ordinary" training that was received in a grant by Station 607. The National Education Center for Agriculture Safety provided 19 winners throughout the nation with the specialized training for a day. Station 607 was kind enough to open this up to the county fire stations and surrounding as well. Multiple 607 personnel, two 603 personnel, and two Cambria 83 (Portage) personnel attended the 4 hour class on grain bin rescues with classroom for about an hour and the rest of the time playing in the mobile grain bin. Crews worked with the trainer to learn different techniques in using the rescue tube to remove a patient. Also part of the training was learning how to make different cuts in the side of the bin to flow corn out. This is a very strategic rescue and requires skill. Thanks to Station 607 and Dan Carr for also providing a tour of an empty grain bin after the class.
